12 opted-in testers, for 14 continuous days, is the current Google Play closed testing minimum for personal developer accounts — reduced from 20 testers in December 2024. It's a hard requirement: no production access application is accepted without first clearing this bar. This page is about getting those testers; if you want the mechanics of the rule itself — what "continuous" means per tester, who it applies to, what counts as opted in — our 14-day closed testing page covers only that.
Finding 12 real people willing to install your app and keep it installed, engaged, for two full weeks is the actual bottleneck for most first-time publishers — not the 12, but the 14 continuous days of it. Friends and family may satisfy the opt-in requirement, but weak or inconsistent app usage can leave you with poor testing evidence when you apply for production access.
Testers14 supplies real Android testers, on real devices, already built into every plan: Starter ships 15 testers (3 above the 12-tester minimum), Professional 20, Max Coverage 25 — each tier is a bigger buffer against a tester dropping out mid-cycle, not a different service.
We don't promise "100% Google approval guaranteed" — Google alone decides production access, based on real engagement and your own answers to their questionnaire. What we do guarantee is tester coverage: if our tester coverage fails to hold your count where it needs to be, you get a free retest.
Every plan includes the same core service — real testers, replacement on dropout, live dashboard, production-access answers generated from your own data — the only difference between tiers is how much buffer you're buying above the 12-tester minimum. A smaller buffer (Starter) is fine if your app has broad device compatibility and nothing unusual in its install flow; a larger one (Professional or Max Coverage) is worth it if your app has a narrower minimum SDK, a less common install path (sideloading warnings, unusual permissions), or you simply want more margin for error on a first submission.
Here's what actually happens after checkout: you get your tester list by email within 4–6 hours, you paste it into Play Console's closed-testing track and share the resulting opt-in link back with us (a 5-step wizard walks through exactly where to click), and from there testers install and use the app on their own real Android phones — different brands and models, not a single test-lab device — for the full cycle. You watch tester count and daily activity on your dashboard the whole time; nothing further is required from you until day 14.
At the required-days mark, your dashboard turns the actual data from your test — which devices ran the app, which countries testers were in, what bugs (if any) got reported — into draft answers for Google's production-access questionnaire, so you're submitting real evidence instead of writing generic text from scratch.
